December 15 is National Wreaths Across America Day11/29/2018 11:00 AM

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

This year December 15 is National Wreaths Across America Day. Where We Remember.

We have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, but our service members sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year to preserve our freedoms.  In many homes, there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is no better time to express our appreciation than during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. I hope you will join me in showing our veterans and their families that we will not forget. We will never forget.

Government’s biggest cybersecurity program is evolving11/1/2017 8:00 AM

Earlier this year, program managers in the Department of Homeland and the General Services Administration’s FEDSIM undertook a redesign of the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program, the largest cybersecurity effort in the federal government.

While the program has a shiny new name — CDM DEFEND, which stands for Dynamic and Evolving Federal Enterprise Network Defense — program managers assert that this is more than just a rebranding.

“It’s an effort to replace the CDM BPAs that expire in August of 2018,” explained Kevin Cox, CDM program manager at DHS, during a discussion Oct. 30 at the annual American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Executive Leadership Conference in Williamsburg, Va. “It will follow the same model of how the agencies are grouped, then we will be competing different task orders for system integrators to partner with those agencies.”

The focus on partnerships is key, said Cox, as the new CDM model will be less about buying specific services and technologies and more about creating a strong cybersecurity posture that can evolve over time.

SEC warns of ‘investment scam artists’ targeting feds9/6/2017 9:00 AM

The Securities and Exchange Commission is warning federal employees to beware of a scam involving the Thrift Savings Plan and other government employee retirement plans.

SEC recently brought suit against four former Atlanta-area stock brokers for running a scam that induced federal workers to roll over their TSP holdings into higher-fee, variable annuity products.

In light of that action, SEC issued an alert to government employees, cautioning them to beware of similar cons. Some 5 million people participating in TSPs could be vulnerable to “investment scam artists” pretending to be affiliated with a government agency, SEC warned.

The White House's promised veterans complaint line goes live today6/1/2017 9:00 AM

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s long-promised hotline for veteran complaints officially launches on Thursday, but questions remain about the long-term plans for the new resource.

The phone line — live now at 855-948-2311 — is designed to “collect, process and respond to the complaints of individual veterans in a responsive, timely and accountable manner,” according to Department of Veterans Affairs officials.

VA Secretary David Shulkin on Wednesday described the initial rollout of the line as a soft launch, with “live-answer agents” receiving and processing some of the calls. He promised that by Aug. 15, the hotline will have continuous coverage from a live operator 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
